How to Wash an Armenian Throw Pillow Cover
Partager
A throw pillow gets handled more than a blanket or a tapestry ever will. It gets sat on, dragged around, and occasionally has a coffee cup set beside it that does not stay upright. Knowing how to wash it without dulling the design keeps it looking right for years, not months.
Check the material before you wash anything
Our pillow covers come in two constructions, and they do not take the same care. Polyester covers carry a printed design; woven cotton pillows have the pattern worked into the weave itself. Check the product page for your piece before you decide how to clean it.
Washing a printed polyester cover
Remove the insert first and wash the cover on its own, on a cold, gentle cycle. Turn it inside out so the printed face is protected from friction against the drum. Skip the tumble dryer's high heat setting, which can affect a printed surface over time, and let it air dry instead.
Avoid ironing directly on the printed side. If the cover needs it, iron from the reverse on a low setting.
Washing a woven cotton pillow
A woven cotton pillow, like an Armenian Alphabet or Pomegranate & Haykakan Symbols design, takes the same gentle approach as a woven blanket: cold water, a mild color-safe detergent, no bleach, and low or no heat when drying. Reshape it while it is still slightly damp so the weave sits evenly once dry.
Wash less than you think you need to
Not every mark needs a full wash. Spot-clean a small stain if the product's care instructions allow it, and give the insert a shake and a fluff between washes to keep its shape. Reducing unnecessary washing also reduces unnecessary wear on a printed or woven design.
Keep it out of direct sun
A pillow that lives on a sunny windowsill or a bright sofa arm will fade faster than one kept out of direct light, regardless of construction. Rotating pillows between a few spots in a room evens out the wear and keeps a personalized or monogrammed cover looking sharp for longer.
Whatever the design, simple care wins: cold water, a gentle cycle, and patience with the dryer. Browse the full Pillows collection to see the current designs.
